Lotto, Sweepstakes, Secret Shopper Check Scam Warning

AN EPIDEMIC OF FRAUDULENT CHECKS ARE BEING SENT TO LOCAL CITIZENS BY MAIL! YOU MAY RECEIVE ONE OF THEM TODAY!

PROTECT YOURSELF FROM THIS FRAUD AND OTHERS. HERE ARE SOME OF THE MOST RECENT ONES TO WATCH FOR:

  • LOTTO WINNINGS
    • Notifies you of large lotto winning, check enclosed to be used to pay surcharges or tax, instructs you to cash check and forward most of it to...
  • SWEEPSTAKES
    • These have even used names you know like, Publishers Clearinghouse. Similar requirement to send back most of the check enclosed.
  • SECRET SHOPPER
    • This one is sometimes initiated by a response to “Work at Home” ads, possibly seen on the internet. There may be multiple checks supposedly from different companies. Again, you send them back most of the money.
  • TRANSFER OF ASSETS OF A DECEASED PERSON
    • Was previously considered the “Nigerian Scheme” because letters and fax supposedly came from some Nigerian “Official”. Required you to provide personal banking info for transfer to your account of deceased person funds.

Keep in mind that the checks are ALWAYS fraudulent! You will be personally responsible for any of them that you cash because you are endorsing them and depositing them to your account. The checks which are mailed to you should be reported immediately to the United States Post Office for investigation.
